What is ISPM 15? This heat treatment is related to wooden packaging in international trade. Millions of wooden pallets are shipped to different countries for the transportation and logistics of goods. Pests found in imported wood can endanger a country's tree population and threaten the entire ecosystem. For this reason, the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the United Nations Agriculture Organization (FAO) adopted the International Standard for Plant Health Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15).
The International Plant Protection Council (IPPC- International Plant Protection Convention), a subsidiary of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), established a new standard (ISPM 15 International) on packaging and pallets made of solid wood used in international trade in Rome in 2002 with the participation of its members. Standards for Phytosanitary Measures 15).
The goal is to help prevent the spread of tree pests and diseases by protecting the world's forests and ecosystems.
This heat treatment (HT) involves placing EPAL pallets in a process enclosure (oven) where the wood is heated. The core temperature of the wood should reach a minimum of 56°C for at least 30 minutes. This eliminates any harmful organisms likely to attack standing plants.
Compliance with the ISPM15 standard is indicated by the HT heat treatment/IPPC (wheat) markings on the central blocks of the pallets.
The ISPM 15 process is natural and environmentally friendly; Does not use any chemicals.
